Fun Film Find – Canon Sure Shot 60 Zoom

The Canon Sure Shot 60 Zoom, also known as the Prima Zoom 60 or Autoboy Zoom 60, is a compact 35mm film camera that was first introduced by Canon in 1994. It was designed to be an easy-to-use point-and-shoot camera that was affordable and capable of producing high-quality images.

One of the most notable features of the Canon Sure Shot 60 Zoom is its 38-60mm zoom lens. This lens allows users to zoom in and out to frame their shots, making it a versatile option for a wide range of photography situations. The lens also features a maximum aperture of f/4.5 at the wide-angle end and f/6.9 at the telephoto end, which allows for decent low-light performance.

In addition to its zoom lens, the Canon Sure Shot 60 Zoom also has a built-in flash, which can be set to automatic or manual mode. The camera also features an autofocus system that uses a passive infrared sensor to determine the distance to the subject. This system is accurate and fast, making it easy to capture sharp images even in challenging lighting conditions.

Other features of the Canon Sure Shot 60 Zoom include a self-timer mode, multiple exposure mode, and a built-in film advance system that allows users to shoot at up to two frames per second. The camera is also compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry around and use for extended periods of time.

Overall, the Canon Sure Shot 60 Zoom is an excellent option for anyone looking for a reliable and affordable point-and-shoot camera. Its zoom lens and autofocus system make it a versatile choice for a wide range of photography situations, while its built-in flash and other features make it easy to use in challenging lighting conditions. While it was designed to use 35mm film, it remains a popular option for photographers who prefer the look and feel of film photography.

So why am I writing about this camera? Well, I bought one today. While down in Florida for the 2023 Amelia Island Concours (now known simply as The Amelia), I visited a number of thrift stores in the Amelia Island and Jacksonville area. I found this little gem of a camera at a good price in one of the local shops and even though they wouldn’t honor the 50% off they were advertising, I bought it anyway.

I will let you know how it performs once I get it back home and put a battery in it. Everything looks good and non-corroded, so I am hoping for the best.
